We currently have student societies, based at three UK universities called ZambiAIDS. These societies were set up by students who had undertaken placements in with PEPAIDS in Zambia, with the aim of fundraising for PEPAIDS and increasing awareness among their local UK population about PEPAIDS’ work. ZambiAIDS is part of PEPAIDS’ UK Peer Education strategy and is a great way for us to tell people about poverty and HIV/AIDS in Zambia, publicise our volunteering opportunities and to galvanise new people into action to support us!
You don’t have to be a university student to start a ZambiAIDS! Anyone can start one anywhere! It might be in your school or church, for example, - even in your local community, just like one of SAPEP’s AIDS action clubs in Zambia! You might do a few fundraising events, or want to organise a talk, that one of our PEPAIDS people can come and speak at. As a group, you might even want to take on one of our projects, and have a specific focus to your activities. Whatever you want to do, setting up a ZambiAIDS is a great way of utilising and developing your team-working skills, learning lots, having fun and improving your CV! Oh yes, and helping to alleviate poverty and HIV/AIDS in Africa!
See what other ZambiAIDS are up to below, or contact us if you’d like to start one yourself!
Nottingham University ZambiAIDS
Durham University ZambiAIDS
Sheffield University ZambiAIDS
ZambiAIDS co-ordinator
We would also love a UK volunteer to help promote and co-ordinate ZambiAIDS! The role would involve supporting current ZambiAIDS societies, helping new ones get started, and making sure they all have up to date information on the website! If you love interacting with people and rallying them into action, then this could be a role for you!
