Sport is one of the main methods used by SAPEP to reach out to the community. Mixed teams help promote gender equality while the sports matches themselves attract large audiences, to whom essential information about life, health and HIV/AIDS can be given.
Playing together in team sports enables our community AIDS action clubs to be really effective! It attracts new members and gives people something to do instead of engaging in risky behaviours such as drinking and sex. It helps keep them fit and healthy so that they can play their part in the fight against poverty and HIV/AIDS.
The communities we work with would love to learn new sports as well as improving their skills in the ones they know. Football and volleyball are the current favourites! PEPAIDS volunteers can make a real difference through sport. Could you:
- Donate a kit and provide fresh motivation to a community AIDS Action Club team! Looking the part will help them to play their part!
- Teach skills? Could you impart your skills to someone else and empower them to teach others?
- Organise a tournament? What better way to help bring AIDS Action Clubs together, attract huge audiences and help make sure they get life-giving information?
There are so many things that could be done! If you have a heart for any aspect of sport, contact PEPAIDS and see how you can help!
